OTTAWA LAKE, Mich. — A 15-year-old student was arrested in Monroe County on Saturday after a threat was made against a school, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office says they were contacted by Whiteford Agricultural School District on Consear Road about a threat of gun violence against the school on Monday.
The threat was made in a group text message involving students at the school according to the sheriff’s office.
A parent of one of the students alerted authorities about the threat.
After an investigation, deputies arrested a 15-year-old female student from Temperance, Michigan.
That student, whose name was not released, was placed at the Monroe County Youth Center.
A small caliber bolt-action rifle was also seized from the suspect’s residence.
Additional law enforcement will be providing security during the school day on Monday at Whiteford Agricultural School buildings according to the sheriff’s office.
However, classes have since been canceled for Monday, Whiteford confirmed to WTOL 11.
