TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - A 22-year-old woman who is herself still recovering in the hospital after an accident early in the morning hours of New Year's Day has been charged with aggravated vehicular homicide after police say one of her passengers has died.
Police say Alicia Rivera, 20, died as a result of injuries suffered in the crash. Esmeralda Guzman, 22, has been charged with aggravated vehicular homicide and aggravated vehicular assault. Police say their investigation shows Guzman was driving drunk at the time of the crash. Two other passengers were taken to the hospital after the accident.
Police say Guzman lost control of her vehicle on I-75 northbound near the Jeep Parkway exit around 4 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2015. The vehicle spun and hit a guard rail before sliding off of the highway, according to Toledo Police.
