Personnel, busing cuts coming after Woodmore Schools levy fails

A Woodmore Schools levy failed during the recent May election, and voters in the district say they have their own theories as to why.

ELMORE, OH (Toledo News Now) - A Woodmore Schools levy failed during the recent May election, and voters in the district say they have their own theories as to why.

"I just think they've lost confidence in the leadership," said the treasurer of the levy committee Becky Busdeker.

According to the Woodmore School website, the May 2014 budget had predicted an extra $430,000 that was not there. The error forced them to ask for an income tax levy that would have provided over a million dollars in the next decade.

Sixty percent of voters turned the levy down. The school's renewal levy also failed.

The school's website says personnel cuts will be made, and busing will be cut for students that live in a two-mile radius of the school.

"I realize there that there are some problems with the administration right now, but I felt that they failed our students,”said Busdeker.

Voters say another reason the levy might have failed is the new $21 million K-8 grade building.

"The timing was wrong, possibly because of the new building just having been completed, and they spent a lot of money on it and so now the children are going to suffer it," said Elmore resident Cliff Brookes.

The school has since found a new treasurer, and has already made over $200,000 in cuts. Learn more about the levy here.
