TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - Toledo Police say they shot and killed a dog Thursday after they saw it attacking a four-year-old boy in the area of Bush and Ontario in north Toledo.
Members of the TPD Gang Unit say they were on their routine patrol when they saw the boy being attacked.
When the officers stopped to help the boy, the dog saw the unit and bolted towards them, prompting police to open fire, killing the dog.
An investigator from Lucas County Canine Care and Control says the dog was running loose. Its owner has been cited for failure to confine, license and vaccinate.
None of the people involved were injured. The incident will be presented to the Police Shooting Review Board.
At this point, police on the scene say killing the dog was justified.
