Voters in Adrian explain what drove them to the polls for Michigan's presidential primary

President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump won the Michigan primaries on Tuesday, further solidifying the all-but-certain rematch between the two men.

ADRIAN, Mich — Voters in Adrian had many issues on their minds when it came to voting for the Democrat and Republican nominees during Tuesday's presidential primary in Michigan.

President Joe Biden secured his expected victory in the state and former President Donald Trump again defeated opponent Nikki Haley, according to results from the Associated Press.

Adrian resident Chad Coulter said he would like to see lengthy immigration processes made more efficient.

"I think that the immigration policy overall needs to be rethought and overhauled and fixed to where it's a speedier process to get those folks into the country," he said.

Adrian resident Marilyn Sanders said she has been voting in Adrian for years and was concerned about crime in the country when she cast her ballot.

"Stop the horribleness of what's taking place in our country, judges letting people go overnight that are raping and killing and destroying and drugs are coming across like crazy," she said.

Thomas Neill, also an Adrian resident, said two items were important to him on Tuesday: veterans and former President Donald Trump's proposed border wall between Mexico and the U.S.

"We need the wall finished and we need the United States of America to take care of our veterans instead of sending the money over to all of these other countries but we can't take care of our own people," he said.

Jerry Powers said the 2024 presidential election and the ballots cast in the swing state of Michigan are crucial in shaping the future of the country.

"It's very serious, this election," Powers, an Adrian resident, said. "We've got to move ahead and if you want changes you've got to come out here and take part."

Michigan's presidential primary was the last before Super Tuesday on March 5, when 15 states and the U.S. territory of American Samoa will select a primary candidate ahead of November's general election.

Ohio's presidential primary will come two weeks later on March 19.

Michigan will next hold a statewide primary on Aug. 6.

The next statewide election in Michigan is the state primary which is August 6th.
