TOLEDO, Ohio — A Toledo-area organization is offering free rides to polls for the presidential primary election in Lucas and northern Wood counties. To get a ride on Election Day, call 419-868-3669 or email gotvohio@gmail.com, the Toledo Area Jobs with Justice & Interfaith Worker Justice Coalition said in a press release.
Toledo Area Jobs with Justice Secretary Bob Lynn Jr. said the coalition offers voter verification services to help people know where to go, what identification to bring, and their voting status.
"The first thing we do is to check that you're registered so that you don't have any issues and that you have ID so that you're able to go in and vote. Those are the rules here in Ohio, after we do that, then we line up a driver to be able to take you to go and vote," Lynn said.
He said this year's presidential election has increased the number of volunteer drivers headed to the polls. Lynn said every year they have close to 50 drivers, this time around it's 55 drivers willing to help out. To get the full information on about your polling location and precinct, call the same number — 419-868-3669 — for assistance.
"We'll be able to get your starting early in the morning, until the very last one. The polls close at 7:30 p.m. As long as you're in line at 7:30 p.m. you can vote," said Lynn. "So, you give us a call at 7 o'clock, we get an opportunity we'll get you there and you can get in line, you'll be able to vote."
Polls for the election are open throughout Ohio from 6:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. You are still permitted to vote as long as you're in line before the polls close at 7:30 p.m.
The coalition has partnered with the Monroe Street Neighborhood Center to provide the free service in past elections.
"Our drivers and phone operators are standing by," the coalition said. "If the line is busy or you are sent to voicemail, make sure to leave your number, and your call will be returned as soon as possible."
