Local Democrat and Republican parties working hard in election’s homestretch

The Lucas Co. Democratic Party chair and the Ottawa Co. Republican chair say early voting turnout has exceeded expectations but there is still a lot of work to do.

OTTAWA COUNTY, Ohio — We are now just days away from the 2024 general election and local chapters of the Democratic and Republican parties are hard at work prepping to try to get their candidates over the finish line.

Party leaders say that Election Day is the culmination of months of hard work, and although they're looking forward to the end, the last few days of campaigning could make the difference between winning or losing.

Schuyler Beckwith is Chair of Lucas County Democratic Party. She says their party offices have been hard at work getting the word out about their candidates ahead of Election Day.

"We are getting ready to make sure our volunteers have all of the sample ballots that they need for Election Day. So we're going to try to have a volunteer at every single one of the 73 polling locations here in Lucas County," said Beckwith.

Meanwhile, a county away, the Ottawa County Republican party is preparing to do the same.

Jill Stinebaugh is Chairman of the Ottawa County Republican Party. She says the election prep has been good and they've had 50 or 60 volunteers.

"I have a very energized central committee, and they all kind of do different things. We have people that send out letters to their Republicans and independents in their central committee. They knock on doors, make phone calls," said Stinebaugh.

And with only a few days until the election, both Stinebaugh and Beckwith say now is the time to rally up voters.

"I love the energy in Ottawa County. We all work together, We're a team. And we want to save America and get our candidates elected", said Stinebaugh.

Beckwith says the energy in the Democratic party won't let up until the polls close on Tuesday.

"On Tuesday, we're going to do what's called knock and drag, where we knock on doors, remind people to vote. They have until 7.30 p.m. on Tuesday to vote. And yeah, we just need to get the word out about our amazing Democrats on the ballot this year," said Beckwith.

Sunday is the last day for early voting in Ohio.

Election Day is Tuesday.
