TOLEDO, Ohio — In a closely contested race, Pete Gerken has been re-elected as Lucas County commissioner, according to unofficial and uncertified results from the Lucas County Board of Elections. The results from the Lucas County Board of Elections show Gerken with 53% of the vote to Tom Waniewski's 47%.
Gerken, a Democrat, has been serving as a Lucas County Commissioner since 2005. His campaign focused on continuing his work in economic development, public safety and improving county services. With a long history of public service, including previous roles on the Toledo City Council and as a union leader, Gerken’s experience and dedication resonated with voters.
Waniewski, a Republican and former Toledo City Councilman, ran a strong campaign centered on fiscal responsibility and transparency. Despite the loss, Waniewski congratulated Gerken and expressed his ongoing commitment to public service.
The final, certified results will be available after all provisional ballots are counted and the official canvass is completed.
