The newest judge of the Lucas County Court of Common Pleas will be confirmed after the official canvass takes place.

TOLEDO, Ohio — Editor's note: The video attached is from a preview of the race before election night.

In a competitive race, Ken Walz has been elected to the Lucas County Court of Common Pleas General Division. Unofficial results show Walz securing 55.5% of the votes, while his opponent, Jaime Agnew, received 44.5% of the votes.

Walz, who has a background in both healthcare and law, including roles as a prosecutor in Sandusky County and a senior assistant prosecutor in Lucas County, will bring a unique perspective to the bench. His campaign focused on addressing mental health issues within the judicial system and proposing a specialized docket for mental health cases.

Throughout his campaign, Walz emphasized the importance of mental health awareness and the need for a more compassionate approach to justice. His victory is seen as a mandate to bring attention to these issues and work towards meaningful reform.

As Walz prepares to assume his new role, he has pledged to prioritize transparency, accountability and community engagement. His tenure is expected to bring innovative solutions and a fresh perspective to the challenges facing the Lucas County Court of Common Pleas.

The official results will be confirmed after the official canvass takes place.
