More than 670K absentee ballots cast in Michigan ahead of Election Day

The Michigan secretary of state said 31% of voters who requested absentee ballots for the upcoming election have completed and returned their ballot.

MICHIGAN, USA — More than 2.1 million registered voters in Michigan have requested an absentee ballot and more than 670,000 of them have submitted a completed ballot, the secretary of state, Jocelyn Benson, announced Tuesday.

According to the secretary of state's office, approximately 31% of voters who requested absentee ballots for the November election have completed and returned their ballot. 

Three weeks before the 2020 election, the secretary of state's office said 34% of voters had submitted their absentee ballots.

21 days before General Election (Oct. 15, 2024)

  • Number of absentee ballot applications received: 2,133,272
  • Number of absentee ballots returned: 672,585

21 days before General Election (Oct. 13, 2020)

  • Number of absentee ballot applications received: 2,852,495
  • Number of absentee ballots returned: 977,694

The secretary of state's office said voters can check the status of their absentee ballot application HERE or by contacting their local election clerk.

Michigan citizens eligible to vote can register online or by mail until Monday, Oct. 21, or in person at a local clerk's office with proof of residency by 8 p.m. on Election Day.

Voters wanting to cast a ballot in person can go to an early voting site in their jurisdiction from Oct. 26 to Nov. 3. Or voters can go to their polling place on Election Day, Nov. 5, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
