Voters weigh in on Ohio's US Senate race between Senator Sherrod Brown and Bernie Moreno

Whoever wins will have an impact on Congress as a whole; their victory could help their party keep or take control of the Senate.

TOLEDO, Ohio — All eyes are on the race for Ohio's US Senate seat. Incumbent senator Sherrod Brown and challenger Bernie Moreno have battled over their policies for months; on Tuesday, voters will take to the polls to make their decision.

The race is being called the most expensive Senate race in the US. Between the two candidates, $400 million has been spent. If Moreno wins, it would turn the long-time "blue" seat "red"; Brown was first elected to the position in 2006.

Whoever wins will have an impact on Congress as a whole; their victory could help their party keep or take control of the Senate.

Voters said they are paying attention to the candidates' positions on healthcare, abortion, education, climate, immigration and property taxes.

One voter told WTOL 11 she was voting for Brown because of his stance on access to abortion. In office, Brown has supported and introduced legislation supporting abortion access, according to Brown's website.

"Because of the women's issues, I feel like we all need to do for ourselves so that's the main issue on that," said Susan Galow of Toledo.

A Moreno voter said he believes Senate seats should come with a term limit. While Brown has represented Ohio in the Senate for nearly 20 years, Moreno, a businessman, would be a newcomer to the legislative body.

"We need a younger generation, and new ideas. Turnover is healthy and is one of the main draw backs of our political system," said Gerard Thompson of Toledo.
