Here's who won Ohio's U.S. Senate race between Sherrod Brown and Bernie Moreno

Moreno’s victory marks a major win for the Republican Party in a state that has been a key battleground.

TOLEDO, Ohio — In a significant political shift, Republican challenger Bernie Moreno has defeated incumbent Democrat Sherrod Brown in the race to be Ohio’s next U.S. Senator on election night, the AP called.

Moreno, a businessman with a background in the automotive industry and blockchain technology, was projected by the Associated Press to win in unofficial and yet-to-be-certified returns.

Moreno’s victory marks a major win for the Republican Party in a state that has been a key battleground. Throughout his campaign, Moreno aligned himself closely with former President Donald Trump, advocating for conservative values and policies aimed at boosting the economy and securing the border.

"I am so grateful to Ohioans for their resounding support in this race," Moreno said in a statement early Wednesday morning. "I look forward to working with the new Republican Senate majority to fix our economy, secure our border, and return to American strength at home and abroad."

The election results reflect a deeply divided electorate, with both candidates receiving substantial support. As Moreno prepares to take office, he faces the challenge of uniting a polarized state and addressing the diverse needs of Ohioans.
