TOLEDO, Ohio — In a significant victory for the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library system, voters have approved Issue 24, authorizing the issuance of up to $153 million in bonds. The measure, which passed 59% to 41% in unofficial, uncertified vote totals, received strong support from the community, reflecting widespread recognition of the library’s vital role in the region.
The approved bond will fund extensive improvements and renovations across the library’s facilities, excluding the Main downtown library. These upgrades are aimed at enhancing the library’s infrastructure, ensuring that it can continue to provide high-quality services and resources to the public.
Library officials have outlined a comprehensive plan for the use of the funds, which includes modernizing existing buildings, expanding digital resources, and improving accessibility for all patrons. The bond will be repaid over a maximum period of 30 years, with an estimated property tax impact of $35 per $100,000 of assessed property value.
The last time the library sought community support for capital improvements was in 1995. Since then, the library has continued to evolve, adapting to the changing needs of its patrons. The passage of Issue 24 marks a new chapter in the library’s history, one that promises to bring state-of-the-art facilities and services to the Toledo-Lucas County area.
Community members and library patrons have expressed their excitement about the upcoming changes.
With the bond issue now approved, the library system will begin the planning and implementation phases of the improvement projects. Updates and timelines for the various projects will be shared with the public as they become available.
