TOLEDO, Ohio — Whether you're heading to the polls early or planning to go on Election Day, it's important to check ahead of time if you're registered to vote.
In Ohio, time has run out to register to vote in this year's presidential election, but there are online tools to check if you're already registered.
In Michigan, you can register to vote and cast your vote up to 8 p.m. on Election Day.
Ohio voter registration
In Ohio, you can check your voter registration at this link. All you need is your first name, last name and the county in which you reside. There you will also find your voting precinct or polling location.
While it's too late to register for the 2024 general election, you can register to vote at this link for other future elections.
To register, you'll need to provide the following:
- Ohio driver’s license or Ohio identification card number
- Name
- Date of birth
- Address
- Last four digits of your Social Security number
Contact your county board of elections regarding any questions pertaining to your voter registration.
If you can't find your voter registration information but believe you're registered and haven't moved out of your county, you may be eligible to cast a provisional ballot. You can do this during in-person absentee voting at an early voting location or the county board of elections, or on Election Day at your correct polling place.
Michigan voter registration
Your voter information in Michigan can be found at this link on the Department of State's website. You can search using your name, birthdate and ZIP Code or by a driver's license number.
As of time of this publication, Oct. 28, it's too late to register online to vote in Michigan, but you can register in person at your city or township clerk's office up until and on Election Day by 8 p.m. You can find your city or township clerk here.
To be eligible to register to vote in Michigan, you must be:
- A Michigan resident (at the time you register) and a resident of your city or township for at least 30 days (when you vote)
- A United States citizen
- At least 18 years of age (when you vote)
- Not currently serving a sentence in jail or prison
You will also need to provide proof of residency and provide documents containing your name and current address. According to the Department of State's website, you can show a digital copy of documents.
Here are acceptable documents:
- Michigan driver’s license or state ID
- Current utility bill
- Bank statement
- Paycheck or government check
- Other government document
