OHIO, USA — The Republican and Democratic parties are gearing up for the final moments leading up to Election Day as remaining voters prepare to head to the polls on Tuesday, Nov. 5.

In Ohio, early voting is open until Sunday, Nov. 3. In order to vote in-person, you must have the correct identification with you or you could face the risk of being turned away. WTOL 11 has everything you need to know so you're prepared.

Voters with identification

Here is a list of acceptable photo IDs to bring with you to cast a vote:

  • Ohio driver's license
  • State of Ohio ID
  • Interim ID form issued by the Ohio BMV
  • US passport or passport card
  • US military ID
  • Ohio National Guard ID
  • US Department of Veterans Affairs ID

All acceptable ID’s from the list above must be valid at the time of voting.

It’s important to note that an unexpired driver's license, state ID card or interim documentation with a former address is acceptable when your current address is listed in the pollbook.

All valid photo IDs must include the following:

  • An expiration date that has not passed
  • A clear photograph of the voter
  • The voter’s name, which must substantially conform to the voter’s name as it appears in the poll list or in the pollbook

If a voter has changed their name and provides proof of the legal name change, completes and signs Form 10-L and is registered within the precinct, the voter’s name on their photo ID may be different from the reported name change.

Here is a list of unacceptable forms of ID:

  • Utility bill
  • Bank statement
  • Government check
  • Paycheck
  • Other government document such as a social security card or birth certificate
  • Driver’s license or photo ID card issued by a state other than Ohio
  • Driver’s license or photo ID that contains a “non-renewable/non-transferable” identifier
  • Driver’s license or photo ID that contains a “noncitizen” identifier may be used in conjunction with additional proof of citizenship
  • Ohio Mobile ID
  • Insurance card
  • Any registration acknowledgment notice from the county board of elections

Voters without identification

If you don’t have a valid photo ID, you can still vote by using a provisional ballot. In order for the provisional ballot to be counted, you must give it to the board of elections no later than four days after Election Day (Nov. 5) to provide an acceptable form of photo ID.

If you do not have a photo ID because of a religious objection to being photographed, you can complete an affidavit of religious objection and have your provisional ballot count.
