TOLEDO, Ohio — The Democratic National Convention is set to take center stage on Monday in Chicago, and it will have its fair share of local Democratic representation from around the country, including right here in northwest Ohio.
There are more than a dozen delegates from Ohio Congressional District 9 headed to Chicago for the convention.
One of them is Carrie Hartman, the president of Toledo City Council and leader of the Lucas County Democratic Party.
"So we're really sending a great group of people from Toledo, but all across Ohio, to go and to communicate what the values of the Democrats in Toledo are," said Hartman.
Another delegate from District 9 headed to the DNC is long-time union member Erika White.
"It's a it's a once-in-a-lifetime chance and I am honored to be here to be able to experience that and take that experience back home and share with others," said Erika White, candidate for State Representative for District 41.
Both White and Hartman feel this convention will bring lots of excitement.
"I think it's going to be a very historic event and I hope that everyone gets a chance to watch and no matter what. No matter if you're Republican or Democrat or independent just seeing something this historic happen. It's great to watch and be a part of so I'm excited," said White.
"It feels like there's new energy in the Democratic Party right now. And I'd really just like to ride this wave of momentum. It's really exciting, and I'm just really looking forward to seeing fellow Democrats at the convention in Chicago," said Hartman.
The Democratic National Conventions begins on Monday and wraps up on Thursday.
