'We're excited': Bowling Green dispensary ready for recreational sales

Nectar in Bowling Green will start selling recreational marijuana with its dual-use permit at 7 a.m. on Tuesday.

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio — Nectar in Bowling Green is one of five dispensaries in northwest Ohio getting the green light to start recreational sales on Tuesday.

Nectar Manager Zach Gergich said not only are he and his staff excited, but the community is, too.

"We've gotten people calling and verifying, we got people checking our hours," Gergich said at his store, located at 1011 N. Main St., on Monday. "Phone's been off the hook all day."

Gergich said his staff has been preparing for this day for a long time.

"We're excited for the morning," he said. "We've been staffing, training and purchasing a lot (of product), so we're definitely not going to run out."

Starting Tuesday, anyone who is 21 years or older can buy recreational marijuana at dispensaries that have been certified to sell it. However, there are limitations to the amounts that Ohio consumers can purchase:

  • One ounce of dried plant material,
  • 10 units of oil to vape, each containing 590mg of THC,
  • 10 packages of edibles totaling no more than 1,100mg of THC

Buyers can't purchase the maximum all at once, either.

Bowling Green resident Sasha Pierson says while being able to buy recreationally in Ohio is a plus, the money will stay in the state, too.

"I'm for it," Pierson said. "Look at the tax dollars you could be getting. People go to Michigan all the time to buy stuff. Buy it here, tax dollars go into funds for everything."

Tax revenue could be anywhere from $276-$403 million within the next five years, according to a study by Ohio State University.

But Gergich said recreational marijuana in Ohio may be a bit pricier compared to other states.

"We are hoping to see that balance out as processors and cultivators keep moving forward and getting us more product," Gergich said. "We're hoping to see them settle down a little."

Nectar plans to start sales at 7 a.m. on Tuesday.
