WOOD COUNTY, Ohio — A tale of three cities is a way to describe Wood County when it comes to the topic of recreational marijuana storefronts.
Perrysburg City Council voted last month to allow marijuana sales in designated locations, Lake Township leadership said no and Northwood's council is still deciding what to do.
To hear from residents themselves, WTOL 11 talked to some Wood County citizens to hear their opinions about recreational marijuana and how they feel about it in their communities.
Some felt that marijuana sold locally in stores would help with medical needs.
"I'm for it," Wood County resident Rachel Crawford said. "I suffer with chronic pain. It's nice to get a break from that, and it's just better for people with anxiety and other things that need a relief from what they're going through."
Others felt the opposite of the majority's support of recreational marijuana shops in Ohio.
“It's currently illegal recreationally in many states and I'd like to keep it that way," Melissa Notestein, a Wood County resident, said. "I think there needs to be a lot more research and evaluation. Let's find out the benefits medicinally. But recreational, I don't see the point."
The reasons vary for the dissenting opinion, but the people interviewed mentioned religion, generational differences of opinion and the congestion it might bring to the community.
