Democracy and Public Policy Research Network at BGSU releases findings of September poll

The university's Department of Political Science said the web-based poll was conducted from Sept. 18 to Sept. 27 on 1,000 likely Ohio voters.

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio — Bowling Green State University's Democracy and Public Policy Research Network in the Department of Political Science released findings and analysis of its September web-based poll of 1,000 likely voters.

The poll was conducted from Sept. 18 to Sept. 27 and included topics of the presidential race, Ohio U.S. Senate race, Ohio Issue 1 and Ohioans' thoughts on the current political environment.

Here are a few of the results from the September poll:

Thinking ahead to the presidential election in November, how likely are you to vote?

  • Almost certain - 89%
  • Very likely - 9%
  • Somewhat likely - 2%

If the election were held today would you vote for Democrat Kamala Harris or Republican Donald Trump?

  • Kamala Harris - 44%
  • Donald Trump - 51%
  • Undecided - 4%
  • Some other candidate - 1%

If the election for the U.S. Senate was held today would you vote for Democrat Sherrod Brown or Republican Bernie Moreno?

  • Sherrod Brown - 49%
  • Bernie Moreno - 45%
  • A candidate from another party - 0%
  • Undecided - 6%

If the election for the U.S. Congress was being held today, who would you vote for in the congressional district where you live?

  • The Democratic candidate - 43%
  • The Republican candidate - 48%
  • Other - 0%
  • Not sure - 8%

This November, voters will be asked whether they approve or reject Issue 1.

  • Yes, in favor of Issue 1 - 60%
  • No, to reject Issue 1 - 20%
  • Not sure - 20%

Democracy and Public Policy Research Network also provided expert analysis of the September poll that can be found at this link.

The university said YouGov, an international online research data and analytics technology group, gathered public opinion data through questions sent in online surveys, emails and texts.

According to BGSU, a five-person research team in the political science department developed, ordered, tested and analyzed the questions in the poll. 

The university said a second poll is set to be conducted in October, but a release date has not yet been announced.
