(Toledo News Now) - Power outages are minimal across most of northwest Ohio except for the far eastern portion of our viewing area. Moderate outages are reported in Ottawa, Sandusky and Seneca counties.

All northwest Ohio communities have felt affects from Hurricane Sandy. Fallen trees have caused trouble for power companies across the region.

The Toledo area was not hit too hard, with less than 1 percent of customers affected. However, moving east across the state, thousands were impacted by the storm and now are without power. The Erie County Sheriff says there was some flooding in the eastern part of the county, a location where a lot of power outages were concentrated, along with the Sandusky/Perkins Township area.

A First Energy spokesperson says crews are working around the clock to repair lines and get electricity back to businesses and homes.

No shelters have been opened in Erie County. The sheriff says the majority of people without power are staying with family or using a generator, but suggests calling the office if something does come up.

"If they have a situation where they're starting to experience some difficulty, perhaps because of a medical condition that requires power, have them please call us right away, and we'll do everything we can do to get them the help that they need," said Sheriff Paul Sigsworth.
