Red Wells Roast Beef closes after near-century run

There used to be multiple locations throughout the area, but on Wednesday, customers ordered their last sandwiches.

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - People in Toledo said goodbye to a city staple this week.

For nearly 100 years, Red Wells Roast Beef was known for their sandwiches and gravy.

There used to be multiple locations throughout the area, but on Wednesday, customers ordered their last sandwiches.

"The food was great back then, and it's great now, ya know," said customer Ed Hall. "I'm just disappointed that they're closing up because, ya know, it's like their gravy is just like, one-of-a-kind."

The original Red Wells opened in 1919.
