MONROE COUNTY, MI (Toledo News Now) - After six months of searching, the body of Chelsea Bruck has been found just 12 miles from where she was last seen.
Bruck went missing after attending a Halloween party on Post Road in Frenchtown Township back in October. Friday remains were found near the intersection of Will Carleton Road and Briar Hill Road in Ash Township on a semi-wooded private property.
Monroe County Chief Deputy Heath Velliquette said the skeletal remains were found around 2 p.m. after workers, who were building up foundation for a house, got a work truck stuck.
On Saturday a press conference was held and Monroe County Sheriff Dale Malone confirmed that the Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office was able to identify the body as that of Chelsea Bruck's through the use of dental records.
Malone said evidence indicates that it was a homicide and they believe the crime took place at or near where the body was found.
"I believe the person was familiar with railroad tracks that are there... I believe that person is familiar with the area and that's what led that person to that area," said Malone.
Though the medical examiner's office says it could take three to four weeks to determine a cause of death, the sheriff's office is continuing to follow any leads and tips in the investigation.
Right now the sheriff's office is not releasing any persons of interest. The owners of the property where the body was found are not suspects.
The area where the body was found is also about 5 miles from Flat Rock, Michigan, where investigators say they found some new type of evidence in the case earlier this month.
