Severe thunderstorm causes extensive damage in Bowling Green

Strong winds ripped through the Bowling Green area overnight, causing extensive damage. Crews have been working all night trying to fix fallen power lines, poles and trees.

BOWLING GREEN, OH (Toledo News Now) - Strong winds ripped through the Bowling Green area overnight, causing extensive damage.

More than a dozen power line poles were knocked down, leaving many without power. Crews from the city of Bowling Green and surrounding areas have been working for hours, trying to fix at least 15 power line poles. Fallen trees are also causing problems.

The intersection of Wooster and Dunbridge is currently closed and traffic lights are not working. The area will be blocked off until all the work is done, which could take a few days.

Crews said they did not expect the storm to cause so much damage.

"It was a nightmare, because when you pull up over the overpass and everything is dark, then you know you've got problems," said John Stewart, assistant supervisor for the city of Bowling Green. "It is a mess, but slowly and surely we're getting everything back on."

At this time, only two businesses and one home are without power still. Crews say it should be restored by the end of the day.
