TIFFIN, OH (Toledo News Now) - Understanding that many people get news from the palm of their hand thanks to social medial, Tiffin Mayor Aaron Montz is taking to Facebook and Twitter to help spread the word on what's going on in his town.
"I think it's probably one of the easiest yet best decisions I made was to create the account," said Montz.
Montz has Twitter open on his desktop and he's tweeting from his phone at the same time, it's safe to say he's connected.
With more than 2,500 likes on Facebook and nearly 600 follows on Twitter, Montz is using his social media savvy-ness to try something new.
He's posting all things Tiffin on his Twitter and Facebook pages, everything from meeting topics and times- to fun weekend events.
In his time as mayor, he's found posting on social media has increased not only public awareness, but also attendance at some meetings and events. He's also noticing it's creating a better sense of community.
"It's really good because it makes the community better," said Montz. "It makes us stronger, it gets the message out. And I think in the long run it's only been a benefit to the city and its residents to get that information out so quickly instead of them having to wait or potentially even miss the information that was out there. And an informed public is always much better than a miss-informed public."
