TIFFIN -- The campus of Tiffin University is stunned after three students -- two of them members of the football team -- were seriously injured in a traffic accident.
The wreck happened Tuesday night at the intersection of State Route 53 and County Road 38 just north of Tiffin, News 11's Dick Berry reports.
Grief counselors were on campus Wednesday helping students and members of the football team cope with this tragedy. Everybody is hopeful the three will recover from their injuries.
The three are Justin Passarge, a junior tight end from Cincinnati; Joshua Carver, a red-shirted freshman fullback from Berea; and Osman Gulyooz, an exchange student from Turkey.
All three are hospitalized in critical condition.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol says an SUV driven by Passarge blew a stop sign, smashing into a semi-truck. The SUV rolled over and into a ditch.
Head Coach Nate Cole says the team is in shock. "Not very well. Been a tough evening. Tough day so far. When you have two of your teammates in the hospital fighting for their lives, it's been very tough," he said.
Just last week, students at Tiffin University staged a fundraiser for the Bluffton University baseball team, which lost five members last month in a bus crash. They raised $8,000.
And now, they find themselves hoping these three young men survive this horrible accident.
