(WTOL) - The community is rallying around the University of Toledo Women's Basketball team as they prepare to for the WNIT championship game.

The Rockets will take on the University of Southern California on Saturday night and will play before a sold out, home crowd at Savage Arena.

"This is the biggest thing that's happened at UT. At least, I've lived in Toledo all my life. It's a big deal and I want to see it," said UT student Lauren Carpenter.

The University is encouraging fans to wear gold to the game. T-shirts were flying off of the shelves at Savage Arena.

UT graduate and fan Chuck Horvath has followed the team all season. He said he never dreamed he would be watching the Rockets play in the championship game.

"Very, very exciting. We've been going nuts following them through the tournament and we just can't wait for tomorrow," said Horvath.

Season ticket holder Eileen Shreiner said it has been fun watching the fan base grow throughout the season.

"I hope it brings more people out there to watch more of their sports. Because there hasn't been great turnout in the last few years. So, hopefully it will trigger people to come see what's available here," said Shreiner.

The Women's Basketball team is on a 17-game home win streak.  If they win the WNIT championship game, it will be the first postseason crown in school history.  The game starts at 3:00 p.m. with gates opening at 1:30 p.m. to the public.

The game will be broadcast nationally on the CBS College Sports Network.

WTOL 11 news will have highlights on the game.

During the game be sure to check Facebook.com/Tsportsreport often, as Sportscaster Jordan Strack will have the latest scores.
