TPS students pitch their ideas to district leaders

School leaders said the discussions helps them strengthen the district to find out the areas where they need to improve.

Students at Toledo Public Schools are getting involved in their education by making suggestions for future students.

"Adults always think they always know what the students are thinking and why they're behaving and doing certain things but when we hear it from the students themselves, we really know the real reason why they're doing things," said Linda Meyers, TPS Transformation Leader.

TPS students sat down with school leaders to make suggestions about how their teachers and school leaders can help them feel more comfortable at school. Some students also talked about areas where they could use additional supplies, like in the cafeteria.

Many of the staff members who attended realized listening to students is more important now than ever before.

"I really love this because we get to come together and speak with others and talk to them about what we think should go on an collaborate with them and then we can take those ideas back to school," said one TPS student.

Additionally this session gives educators the chance to explain to students the mentality behind certain rules, like the new TPS back-pack policy that went into affect this semester. The policy prevented students from carrying backpacks in school.

"We were so upset about that but now that we're here and they explained it to us, we understand and it's our safety they're trying to look out for at the end of the day," said a TPS student.
