HOLGATE, OH (Toledo News Now) - The Findlay Courier is reporting that the man killed when his car was struck by two trains earlier this week in Holgate was the former mayor.
The accident was reported shortly after 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. The Henry County Sheriff's Office says a Chevy pickup driven by James Junge, 63, of Holgate, was traveling south on State Route 108, which is Keyser Street in the village. When Junge came to the train crossing, the gates were down and lights were activated.
Witnesses say Junge drove around the crossing gates and onto the tracks, where his vehicle was hit by an eastbound train. The train pushed the pickup down the track to the east, and it was eventually struck by a westbound train on the adjacent track.
Junge was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
