(WTOL) - A local family, with 11 children, is in Disney World while crews from the TV show Extreme Makeover: Home Edition build them a brand new house.
Hundreds of volunteers are working on the Frisch family's new home. They were chosen as the 128th build of the popular show.
News 11 caught up with some of the designers on scene who say meeting the Frisch family was a heart-warming experience. "It's kind of humbling to realize these people who have this tiny little house, that give so much to the community... Aaron's a firefighter. They still went out of their way to seek out other people who were less fortunate... go down to Haiti and get those five kids -- three kids from the inner city of Toledo. It's amazing," Designer Rib Hills tells us.
Crews will continue to build throughout the week, and the home is expected to be completed by the weekend.
A parade led by the City of Toledo's Fire Department Honor Guard and Firefighters Pipes and Drums led a parade Wednesday.
Designer Ty Pennington from the TV show led the march, flanked by Buckeye principals Tim Schlachter and Mike White, as more than 500 volunteers clapped and chanted.
Following the march through the neighborhood to the site, the crowd heard comments from Schlachter, White and Pennington about how Aaron and Jackie were true heroes in our community for providing a loving home for their biological and adopted family.
In addition, Aaron's former crew partner, Kathy Zeller, recalled Aaron's bravery and quick action that saved their lives during the Toledo riots in October 2005.
Fire Chief Michael Wolever commended Aaron and stated that this family truly deserved a new home. In closing, Aaron's Mother Judy Frisch, tearfully thanked everyone for their support and asked the crowd to recite the Lord's Prayer.
As the crowd watched, Ty checked in with the Frisch family now enjoying a dream vacation at Disney World.
At noon, around 150 firefighters, including those from Aaron's Station 27, began the demolition process which took about 90 minutes.
