TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - The hunt is on for a sex offender who has been on the run for two and a half years. U.S. Marshals have put James Smith on their top eight most wanted sex offenders in northern Ohio.
Marshals say in 2003, Smith sexually assaulted his girlfriend's children's babysitter who was only 14 years old at the time. He is wanted for not registering as a sex offender and violating his parole. Marshals believe he may either be in Lima, OH, or in the state of Florida.
"We have been investigating this case. We just haven't had any information where he is at, but as you can see, we have a huge push attempt to apprehend this guy. We never quit looking for these folks, but this is one of the guys we have to catch up with," said Christopher Hodge with U.S. Marshals.
Smith is 52, and has a lengthy criminal record including drug offenses, burglary and thefts. If you know where Smith is, call U.S. Marshals at 866-492-6833.
