TOLEDO, Ohio — Voters in Ohio have approved ballot measures legalizing recreational use of marijuana. But does that mean residents are allowed to grow their own at home?
With spring almost here, we wanted to know, can you openly grow marijuana in your yard legally?

Our source is Morgan Fox with the National Organization for the Reform Marijuana Laws and the Ohio Revised Code.
"The plant limit is six per individual, 12 per household at this point, and this is something Ohioans are now legally allowed to do," Fox said.
Some Ohioans could already be legally growing their own. If you plan to start soon, Fox has some advice.
"Familiarize yourself with the law, secondly recognize that its very easy to grow cannabis, its very difficult to grow high quality cannabis and just that you are growing in the safest and most legal way possible," Fox said.
This means following the law.
The Ohio Revised Code states the grower has to prevent access to the plant by anyone younger than 21-years-old.
You also have to be able to restrict the public from easily reaching it.
"You can only grow in a secure closet, room, greenhouse or other enclosed area in or around the area in which you live," Fox said.
While you can grow marijuana outside, it has to be in a secured area. This goes for both Ohio and Michigan.
This means the answer is no, you can not grow marijuana openly in your yard without breaking the law.
If you do get caught growing plants openly in your yard, or have more than the allowed limit, you could face misdemeanor criminal charges.
Landlords also have the option to prevent their tenants from growing or smoking marijuana on their property.
