Victim identified in fatal Monroe County crash

A Michigan man was killed early Wednesday morning, when his car collided with a utility pole and a tree.

MONROE COUNTY, MI (Toledo News Now) - Emergency crews responded to a deadly accident early Wednesday morning near the Ohio-Michigan state line.

One person was killed in an accident on Jackman Road in Bedford Township, Monroe County.

Police have identified the victim as Jacob D. Reprogle, 31, of Temperance, Michigan.

A preliminary investigation revealed that Reprogle's 2012 Ford Fusion ran off the east side of the roadway around 2:30 a.m., struck a utility pole and a small tree. Reprogle was not wearing a seatbelt, and he died on the scene, according to investigators.

It took awhile for officers to get to the vehicle. Power lines were down near the car, which made it unsafe for police to go near it.

Power is out in the area, affecting about a dozen customers. There is not estimated time for when power will be restored.

Police are still investigating the cause of the wreck. They say weather, speed and roadway conditions appear to have all been factors.

Reprogle was the only person in the car.
