(WTOL) - Over a thousand volunteers came out on Saturday morning beautifying our local rivers and streams.
It was Clean Your Streams day across the region.
Cleanup started at 8 a.m. at 60 different sites.
The goal was to collect as much trash from the waterways as possible over the span of three hours.
Volunteers say events like these are important for future generations.
"I'm born and raised in Northwest Ohio. We love being in the outdoors and we have a huge responsibility to help keep it viable for younger generations," said volunteer Ryan Vicars. "I've got two little kids running around right now, so it's obviously very important to help keep it sustainable for everyone going forward."
Organizers say they're anticipating that over 20,000 pounds of trash was collected that would have otherwise ended up in our waterways.
