TOLEDO, OH (WTOL) - The Lucas County Republican Party has a new leader.
Ottawa Hills lawyer and former state legislator Mark Wagoner Jr. was elected chairman during a re-organizational meeting of the party's central committee on Saturday.
Wagoner replaces Jon Stainbrook, who has been unsuccessful in his 10 years as chairman in electing Republicans to local county offices dominated by Democrats.
Wagoner says he can turn things around by with strong fundraising skills and recruiting better candidates for office.
"Our priority is going to be to build the infrastructure of the party to make sure we're giving all of our candidates the resources and support they need to get their message out to the people," said Wagoner.
Stainbrook was grateful for the opportunity to serve as chairman.
"I'm very honored to have served as chairman of the Lucas County Republican Party for ten years. It's been more of a privilege and honor than I can ever say and I want to thank all of the voters of Lucas County for this opportunity," said Stainbrook.
Stainbrook says he plans to remain involved in party activities.
