Washington Township Fire Department looking for new volunteers

The Washington Township Fire Department is looking to bring on 10 new recruits.  The positions are considered volunteer jobs, but do pay a small amount.

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, OH (Toledo News Now) - The Washington Township Fire Department is looking to bring on 10 new recruits.

The positions are considered volunteer jobs, but do pay a small amount.

"We receive a very small stipend per call as far as pay goes, but that it really not why we are here for the job, the pay that we receive is right here in our heart and when somebody says 'thank you' for helping them out in their time of need, that is all the pay that we need," said Washington Township Fire Chief Matt Hart.

The department says they are looking for volunteers who can respond to calls nigh the nighttime hours. Those who live in the Point Place and Shoreland areas are preferred.

Those who join the department will begin training on June 1.

If you're interested in becoming a firefighter, stop by the Washington Township Fire Station at 2469 Shoreland Avenue on Wednesday evening. Ask to speak to a chief officer for an application. A brief interview with be conducted at that time.
