Public invited to free eclipse viewing party at BGSU

Final preparations are happening for the total solar eclipse watch party at Doyt L. Perry Stadium on April 8.

TOLEDO, Ohio — With less than a week left until the total solar eclipse, Bowling Green State University is offering a watch party that it hopes will educate and entertain the community.

The public is welcomed to visit Doyt L Perry Stadium on Monday, April 8 to watch the total solar eclipse.

Andrew Layden, a professor and chair of the Physics and Astronomy Department at Bowling Green State University, said the day will be full of planned events for the community to enjoy.

"The watch party on April 8 at Bowling Green will be in our football stadium, and we will have a lot of activities going on in addition to just watching the eclipse," Layden said.

Layden said a lot of preparation has gone into the watch party, and he hopes the community will come out to enjoy the festivities and learn about the eclipse.

"This is a great thing to see at least once in your lifetime, and this one is convenient because the eclipse comes to us," Layden said. "We encourage you to come out and enjoy this with us."

The free watch party will offer educational activities, demonstrations, music, telescope viewing, food and even a live NASA feed.

Free eclipse glasses and free parking will be offered for those in attendance; Layden said this was done so that everyone could enjoy the eclipse.
