TIFFIN, Ohio — We're less than 100 days from our area being cast in complete darkness during the next total solar eclipse. One local county is making sure it's ready to host a surge of visitors.
Seneca County expects the county's population to triple with visitors from across the country for the total solar eclipse on April 8.
To help those visitors, the group Destination Seneca County has launched a new eclipse online landing page, where visitors can connect with local businesses, restaurants, hotels and more to better plan their trip.
"Then they can go to one page and say, 'Where can I go to lunch? Where can I go to dinner? Where can I stay? What museums or what attractions are open? What events are happening this weekend while we're here?'" said Bryce Riggs, executive director of Destination Seneca County.
Tony Waters works at The Hampton Inn in Tiffin and he said his staff has been answering calls about the eclipse for years, and have been filling weekend reservations for the event since May.
Waters said it's important that they connect their guests with plenty of other things to do in the area.
"The fun things to do, the great things we have here in Tiffin and Seneca County that they can do outside of the eclipse," said Waters. "Because that's just really going to be about an hour, an hour or two out of their entire stay."
The hope is by showing a unified effort to bring in eclipse visitors, it shows anyone who makes the trip to Seneca County that they will be taken care of wherever they go.
"I think when people walk through the doors of our small businesses throughout our community, it'll let people know that they're aware this is happening, they're going to be open and that they're really going to be attentive to them while they're here," said Riggs.
The Tiffin Hampton Inn said there are a few reservation spots available for that total eclipse weekend, but they are expecting them to go pretty quickly into the new year.
