TOLEDO, Ohio — The total solar eclipse showed its beauty and left witnesses breathless with its extraordinary prowess. Now with the eclipse over, some people are wondering what they should do with their glasses. Some might want to throw them away, while others might keep them as souvenirs.
If you are wondering what to do with your glasses, local organizations are encouraging you to recycle your glasses.
You can drop off your solar eclipse glasses to the Imagination Station through April 18 and they will donate them. The Imagination Station donates the glasses to Astronomers Without Borders, an organization that donates glasses to countries where an eclipses may be occurring soon. The glasses are then distributed to people who need them to view an eclipse safely.
Any damaged glasses will be recycled, so you can bring in those as well.
Andi Roman, who works with the Imagination Station, explained how you can donate your glasses.
"People may want to keep them as souvenirs but if you don't, there will be recycling opportunities at Imagination Station and all the Toledo Lucas County Public Libraries. So you can either put them in the bin today after the eclipse, or they're going to be at these places through April 18," Roman said.
If you cannot drop off the glasses at the Imagination Station or Toledo Lucas County Public Library, Wood County Libraries will also be accepting glasses for recycling.
