TOLEDO, Ohio — Less than a week after Toledo women's basketball head coach Tricia Cullop left for a new job, the Rockets have the new leader of their program.
The University of Toledo announced on Tuesday it hired Ginny Boggess as the next head coach.
Boggess comes to Toledo after three seasons at Monmouth University in New Jersey. She led the team to a 22-10 overall record and a 14-4 league record in the Coastal Athletic Association last season.
"I am extremely thankful to Dr. Gregory Postel, Bryan Blair, and (Executive Associate Athletic Director) Nicole Alderson for the tremendous opportunity to serve as the head women's basketball coach at the University of Toledo," Boggess said in a press release from UT. "The University and community support that the program receives is amazing. I can't wait to get to know all the players and build on the success the program has enjoyed throughout the years."
Before Monmouth, the West Virginia native spent time as an assistant coach at Penn State and Marquette. She graduated from Wingate University in 2003.
"We are ecstatic to welcome Coach Boggess and her family to Team Toledo," said Bryan Blair, UT athletic director. "A 21-year coaching veteran, she has demonstrated the ability to recruit and develop talent at the highest levels of Division I, while excelling academically and competing for championships."
The hiring of Boggess comes after Tricia Cullop announced last week that she was leaving to be the head coach at the University of Miami in Florida after 16 seasons in the Glass City.
