Toledo boxer Jared Anderson eyeing bout in hometown

Jared 'Big Baby' Anderson resides and trains in Houston, but is working to headline a fight in his hometown Toledo this year.

TOLEDO, Ohio — If Jared Anderson has it his way, he will be bringing a major boxing card to downtown Toledo this summer.

Anderson, a Toledo native, is 13-0 with 13 knockouts in his professional career and has quickly become the talk of boxing in the heavyweight division.

Before he gets a chance to get back to his hometown, he will be on the undercard of the Shakur Stevenson fight on April 8 in New Jersey.

He isn’t overlooking any fights, but the thought of showing off in front of the glass city is something he’s been dreaming about.

“That’s my number one thing on the list,” said Anderson. “I told my company I don’t want to fight anymore if it’s not at home. We definitely should have that coming real soon.”

"We’re coming to Toledo this year,” said Antonio Leonard who is one of Anderson’s promoters. “Putting a big fight in the arena. It’s going to be big. The Big Baby is on the way.”

Anderson has sky-rocketed up the boxing ranks over the last few years. In his last fight, at Madison Square Garden, Anderson knocked out veteran Jerry Forrest in the second round. Every time he’s thrown a tougher challenge, he seems to up his game.

“I know that Toledo made me who I am,” said Anderson. “I want to show everybody that’s where I come from and that’s what made me.”

Anderson currently holds the WBO International heavyweight title, but he’s got much bigger dreams, and the boxing world is starting to take notice.
