NORTHWEST, Ohio — Toledo was picked to finish fourth and Bowling Green was selected to finish sixth in the Mid-American Conference men's basketball preseason coaches poll which was released on Wednesday.
Akron was picked to finish first in the poll, receiving 11 of the 12 first-place votes. Kent State and Ohio were picked to follow the Zips in second and third place, with the Bobcats receiving the other first-place vote in the poll.
Central Michigan was picked to finish last.
The preseason first-team and second-team picks were also announced and Toledo's Dante Maddox Jr. was picked for the first-team. No other Rockets or Falcons were selected.
The Rockets have won three straight MAC regular-season championships. They lost three all-conference players from last season including MAC Player of the Year, RayJ Dennis.
As for the Falcons, they are under new leadership with head coach Todd Simon in his first season at BGSU.
Toledo and Bowling Green both open their seasons at home on Monday, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. The Rockets will take on Detroit Mercy and the Falcons will go up against Chicago State.
