Toledo women's basketball picked to finish 1st, BGSU picked 4th in MAC preseason poll

The Rockets open the season on Wednesday, Nov. 8 and the Falcons begin their season on Tuesday, Nov. 7.

NORTHWEST, Ohio — Toledo women's basketball will be jumping into the 2023-24 season with high expectations.

The Rockets were picked to finish first in the Mid-American Conference preseason coaches poll, receiving 11 of the 12 first-place votes. They also received 10 votes to win the MAC tournament. 

Bowling Green was picked to finish fourth in the preseason poll.

Ball State received the other first-place vote and Miami was picked to finish last.

The Rockets also landed guard Quinesha Lockett on the preseason first-team All-MAC squad. Sophia Wiard and Sammi Mikonowicz were picked for second-team All-MAC. 

Falcons' guard Lexi Fleming was selected for second-team All-MAC.

UT returns all five starters from last season's team that won the MAC championship and picked up a victory in the NCAA Tournament over Iowa State. 

As for the Falcons, they're coming off a deep run in the WNIT, but will be under new leadership after former head coach Robyn Fralick left to take the same job at Michigan State. 

BGSU is now led by Fred Chmiel who was a longtime assistant coach at South Carolina. 

The Rockets open the season on Wednesday, Nov. 8 against James Madison on the road. The Falcons begin their season on Tuesday, Nov. 7. at home against Cleveland State.
