Football star Terion Stewart saves boys from drowning in Sandusky

While everyone in Sandusky knows Stewart for his play on the field, he will now be known as a hero for saving two boys from drowning after falling into the water.

SANDUSKY, Ohio — We’ve all heard the phrase right place at the right time. For Sandusky football star Terion Stewart, those words rang true this past week. He was at the location for the Sandusky Public Boat Launch when his casual lunch with his girlfriend turned in to much more.

For a group of youngsters, their day started with a trip to the docks. It almost ended in tragedy.

“They were screaming help, help, help,” said Stewart. “I was scared. I was scared for them. They were little kids. I was like ‘ok I gotta go help them.’"

What started as boys riding their bikes and playing down by the docks, led to 2 boys falling in the water.

“I sprinted over here and I saw one little boy all the way down there,” said Stewart as he surveys the boat dock where the incident took place. “I saw the reflection and I got down and I reached down there and just pulled him right up. The other little boy was trying to get to shore right over there.”

This story had a happy ending, but without Stewart there, this story could have been much different.

“I’ve never been down here,” said Stewart. “This was my first time trying to hang out down here. God just put me in the right place at the right time. When I ran over there, I did not hesitate. I just moved everybody out of the way. I don’t think twice, when I see danger, I go.

On the football field, Stewart is getting ready to head to play for the BGSU Falcons. As a running back at Sandusky, he was one of the most electric players in Ohio. As a human being, his contributions on this day are worth far more.

“It makes me feel very good,” said Stewart. “A lot of people know me because of football, like on the field, but off the field, I do a lot of things too.”

The family is very glad that Stewart is much more than just a football player.
