TIFFIN, Ohio — The Tiffin Calvert Senecas are one of the top baseball teams in the state of Ohio. They're currently 12-1 and the No. 2 team in Division IV in the latest coaches poll.
A big reason why is pitching, especially from Caden Otterbacher.
"He's a humble kid. You don't get a whole lot of emotion out of him," Calvert head coach Matt Coleman said.
The senior is having another great season. Last week versus Tiffin Columbian, he threw a no-hitter. It was the first time a Seneca pitcher had done that in years.
"It was pretty quiet in the dugout. I think most people knew in our dugout," Coleman said. "But when that final out was made, it was pretty special."
"I was pretty excited myself but I knew it wasn't just me, it was the whole team playing defense behind me," Otterbacher said. "My infield was there to make the play and shut them down."
Otterbacher is committed to playing baseball at Tiffin University. But he says right now, he's focused on each throw and making the most of Calvert's already awesome season.
"Focusing on one game at a time and the next at-bat at a time," Otterbacher said. "We need to focus on the one game, our next game, to get to where we want to be at the end of the season."
"He's scratched the surface in my opinion. He's still pretty raw," Coleman said. "The sky's the limit if he continues to work at things, and excited to see what's next for Caden."
