ELMORE, Ohio — The Woodmore girls basketball team is getting ready for a huge contest on Saturday, a first-place showdown in the Northern Buckeye Conference.
The Wildcats are 10-0 this year and a big reason why is their senior star Macey Bauder.
Last year as a junior, Bauder was first team all-league and first team all-district. This year, expect the same.
She’s averaging 15.5 points per game and she’s really turned it on as of late. In their last three games, she’s scored 18, 19, and 22 points against Genoa, Lake and Otsego respectively.
"I've definitely grown, I've got a lot more confidence this year in my shot so I'm more of a threat on offense," said Bauder. "Instead of just driving, I can pull up and shoot. I've had a lot of help from my coaches with that confidence."
"She's been a significant player in our program since her freshman year," said Woodmore head coach Kyle Clair. "She's taken a leadership role this year. I think she's taken some ownership of the team, been a little more vocal than in year's past. It's just been an all-around great career for her and she's really putting the finishing touches on it now as a senior."
Woodmore would love to finish the league schedule off undefeated and win the NBC title outright, but they’ll have to get through that tough test at Fostoria first.
"We've wanted it for the last four years," said Bauder. "Our sophomore year we tied it, but we want the chance to get it to ourselves this year. It's really exciting that we have the opportunity."
Macey Bauder is our Dave's Running Athlete of the Week.
