WHITEHOUSE, Ohio — When Peyton Tully joined Anthony Wayne's girls lacrosse team, the program hadn't experienced much success. The Lady Generals didn't begin playing varsity until the Spring of 2015.
With strong aspirations and help from relatives, that's now all changed.
"It feels good to go out with a bang and see everyone with a smile on their face at the end," Tully said.
On Wednesday, her team secured the program's first Northern Lakes League title in program history. Anthony Wayne defeated Northview 15-1 with help from Tully who had two assists and a goal.
"In the mix with all my teammates, it's the best feeling ever," the senior said. "My dad and I were crying because it's all the emotions in one."
When she reached high school, her parents John and Tiffany joined as well, coming together to elevate a new standard for lacrosse in Whitehouse.
The Tully family set a mark that before Peyton graduated, the group would win a title. Sure enough, they scored exactly that.
"She's had a great week, a great year and it's surreal," head coach Tiffany Tully said. "She's set some goals for herself and for her team, now she's finalizing those."
Two days before the Lady Generals stood atop the NLL, her daughter set some personal marks. Six to be exact during an away game at Troy on Monday.
Most assists, goals and points in a game now stand in Tully's name. She also possesses those school records for a season as well.
"Honestly didn't know that I was up for records like that. I just put my head down and play," Tully said. "I have an amazing team to back me and all those points wouldn't have happened if it wasn't for them."
Following an ACL injury during her freshman season, the climb to reach new heights has been fulfilling.
"She does a great job on the field for sure and has teammates to back her up for that," her mother said. "She's got great IQ which helps with off-ball movement, she sees it happen."
A do-it-all player fueled by seeing others flourish. Despite Tully's playing career coming to a close, it's the next generation that she's most eager about having played a big role within Anthony Wayne's youth program.
"One of my proudest accomplishments is to be able to coach them this spring and be a role model for the younger girls to look up to," Tully said. "Hopefully stick around for them to be in high school as well."
Peyton Tully is WTOL 11's Athlete of the Week sponsored by Dave's Running.
