Clyde returns one of its most experienced teams this season. The Fliers were hit by the injury bug early last year, ranging from wide receivers to quarterbacks.

"I think it was big, but it did a couple of things," said 12th-year head coach Ryan Carter. "You had those injuries and you had kids out but you get a lot of underclassmen experience and playing time."

Carter said he is proud of how the players stepped up and gave everything they had despite their 5-6 overall record.

He also believes it will only make for a better outcome this fall.

Senior corner Kameron Shortridge said despite the adversity, the motto has remained the same: work hard and be ready when your number is called.

"If everybody's going their hardest, that's really all we ask," he said. "If you have talent, you have talent, that helps a lot but if you're going as hard as you can that's what we ask.

"I think last year with injuries a lot of younger guys stepped up and filled those spots pretty good, like our quarterback going down last season but last year with the injuries they got a lot of experience so I think we're pretty experienced all across the board," Carter added.

The Fliers open up the season against rivals Bellevue, but Carter and the team are looking forward to showcasing a fresh and experienced squad.

"It wasn't anything that the kids weren't trying to do, we just were missing some pieces last year," Carter said. "To get those pieces back and add them to the guys that got a bunch of reps last year, I like what were doing so far this year."
