At Strobel Field, Sandusky aims at a return to the playoffs after securing its first winning season since 2019. However, the Blue Streaks have had to deal with some unfortunate circumstances this summer.

"Just their ability to persevere. There's a lot going on this summer with school and everything," said head coach Jamaris Brown. "These boys and one girl that we have, have been staying focused and keeping the main thing the main thing."

Lucas Poggiali is now out as head coach after just two years, following community backlash regarding the athletic department's hiring process.

During the turmoil, defensive coordinator Jamaris Brown initially took his name out of the running for head coach before accepting the job in late June.

"He's been stepping up as a coach and hasn't had to discipline us a lot," said senior Aa'zoriyon Bonner. "But it's really all the same other than different practice. His presence, he's around more and all-around since he's not just a defensive coordinator this year."

Any change naturally leads to a transition, yet he and his players feel that the process has gone as smoothly as can be. With an abundance of skill at Brown's disposal this group is eager to get the ball rolling and avenge last year's dramatic 33-32 season-opening loss to Clay.

"He's pushed us a lot and we worked really hard this summer," junior quarterback Dale Johnson said. "To be honest, I'm just excited to see where this goes."
