Youth is the story in Wauseon; at least, throughout the preseason.

The Indians are having to integrate some young players into the fold with the graduation of a talented senior class.

"The young guys are ready to go, we're good leaders for them and we're ready," senior Wyatt Smith told WTOL 11 Sports. "We're definitely excited and we just want to win."

The program is coming off a 6-5 campaign in 2023 as they continue to find ways toward a winning record. An aspiration that's become a standard under head coach Shawn Moore.

"Some of these sophomore and juniors, you're looking to see how they're going to respond to adverse moments," he said. "Not everything is going to go their way and how are they going to push through."

Given the inexperience heading into the fall, Wauseon plans to unveil a new-look offense geared toward running. According to the NWOAL preseason coaches' poll, the team is projected to finish 4th in the league.

"Just staying up and at it. You can't get discouraged if you take a loss during the season. Got to keep going because losses happen, and the league is hard," senior Braylon Miller said. "Every team is difficult and you got to keep going."
