KALAMAZOO, Mich. — The Walleye are moving on in the Kelly Cup Playoffs after sweeping Kalamazoo Friday night.
Toledo beat the Wings to secure a spot in the Central Division Finals and now await the winner of the other semifinal between Wheeling and Indy.
Riley McCourt opened the scoring for the Fish with a first period goal to give Toledo a 1-0 lead. Trenton Bliss scored just 18 seconds into the second period to extend Toledo's lead before scoring again in the period to make it a 3-0 game.
The Wings would end the second period with two straight goals to cut into the Walleye lead, but a Brandon Kruse goal in the third period would add some insurance. Toledo would go on to win, 4-2.
Including the regular season and playoffs, Toledo has won 18 consecutive games. It ties the longest winning streak including the postseason in ECHL history.
Wheeling leads their series with Indy, 3-1. Game 5 in that series will be Saturday at 7:10 p.m.
Games 1 and 2 of the Central Division Finals against either Wheeling or Indy will be in Toledo on Friday, May 3 and Saturday, May 4.
